Howell United SC Non-Contact Training COVID-19 Policy

Club Responsibilities:

·       Return to practice or tryouts is not mandatory. If you do not feel comfortable participating it is ok. Speak to your coach and workout a plan to return when you are comfortable. If there is any concerns or difficulties please reach out to the board and we will assist.

·       Practices will be held at Soldier Memorial Field as well as alternate locations currently being selected.

·       School fields are off limits

·       Practice times will be 90 minutes long on fields will be staggered in 30 minute intervals so that teams do not run into other teams in the parking lot. Coaches may arrive 15 minutes prior to setup for practice

·       All teams tryouts may commence and must be scheduled with the club. All participants must register for tryouts through the clubs online registration system. No exceptions

·       All COVID-19 communications will be listed on the website, as well as posted on the Howell United twitter and Facebook account. There will be a zoom meeting on Monday June 22, 2020 to review and train all coaches

·       NJYS membership (includes clubs, coaches, and players) are provided General Liability and Excess Accident Medical coverage while conducting sanctioned and approved NJYS activities. (e.g. practices, training, scrimmages, clinics, tryouts, games and tournaments).  The current NJYS policy does have a Communicable Disease exclusion. Howell United will not provide any additional insurance. Furthermore, all families, coaches, trainers, and volunteers must sign a liability waiver prior to returning as well

·       The club will provide signage  at all training and game fields to remind all participants to adhere to all guidelines. Home and away sidelines will be separate per the field plan on the main website.

·       The club will have designated volunteers that will monitor adherence to the guidelines

·       All players, coaches, trainers, and volunteers are required to report a positive COVID-19 infection to the individual or a person living in the same household as the individual. This should be reported immediately to [email protected]. It is your choice if you want to report to the coach but reporting to the coach does not alleviate the responsibility to notify the club.

Howell United will not disclose any personal information nor inform who tested positive, but it will allow us to put in effect our emergency plan.

·       Should the club be notified a player, coach, trainer, or volunteer develop COVID-19 and is confirmed case, the club will suspend operations immediately until we can determine what field and whom that person has come in contact with.

Once that is determined we will notify the team (without disclosing any personal information) that they cannot practice.

We will then review with the coach they properly sanitized the equipment at the end of the training session.

If they did not we will have to keep all teams that were on that field on hiatus for 10 days

We will review the situation with the local health department and when we get the all clear, all other remaining teams can resume training

Coach Responsibilities:

Practices, games, and scrimmages may now be conducted while adhering to the following policies:

         Prioritize the health and safety of the participants.

         Administer questionnaire prior to practice/games/scrimmages. If any answers are Yes than send the player home.

         Keep a log of who has attended practice/games/scrimmage

Exercise reasonable care to ensure all athletes have their own individual equipment (ball, water,bag etc.) and station on the sideline for their equipment (e.g. backpack). Coaches may not lend out equipment. Make sure social distancing during breaks and entering/leaving practice area, place bags and equipment at least 6 feet apart. 

         Coach should maintain physical distance requirements from players based on state and local health requirements and exercise reasonable care to ensure players practice appropriate physical distancing during breaks and entering and leaving the field. (e.g. prohibit high-5s, hugs, handshakes, fist-bumps, etc.).

         The use of scrimmage vests, or pinnies, is allowed at this time. Pinnies may be given to each player, but the player shall be responsible to take them home and wash them and keep for the duration of the season.  Benches may not be used.

         If a coach chooses to use a goal they must do the following: 

o   Coach must bring a sanitizer and wipe down the goal frames immediately after practice. The club will reimburse the team for the cost of the sanitizer.

         All training should be conducted outdoors per state or local health guidelines.


         Should a coach violate any of these protocols all training and tryouts will be suspended for the team until a ruling is made by the board. Teams will forfeit their next game should the policy be violated by coach, player, or family member.

         If a parent reports an illness with the player or in their family and/or reports a positive Covid-19 illness advise them to report this in an email to [email protected]. In addition you should also report this to the email address. You are not allowed to disclose any personal information other than to state there was a report.

         Follow emergency action plan in the event of an illness or injury during practice.

         Have fun, stay positive – players and parents are looking to you for leadership.

Parent Responsibilities:

         Ensure your child is healthy and check your child’s temperature before activities with others. If your child’s temperature is above 100.4 or exhibits any other signs of Covid-19 do not send your child to practice.

         Notify your club immediately if your child becomes ill for any reason. This should be reported immediately via email to [email protected] It is your choice if you want to report to the coach but reporting to the coach does not alleviate the responsibility to notify the club.

         Stay in car or adhere to social distance requirements, based on state and local health requirements.  During games, they may sit in the designated areas with their own families and maintain 6 feet of separation.

         Ensure washing (e.g. hands) takes place after every training.

         Ensure clothes and equipment (clothes, cleats, ball, shin guards etc.) are sanitized before and after every training. Label water bottle and equipment.

         Players will not be allowed to participate if they do not bring their own equipment.

         Do not assist your coach with equipment before or after training.

         Be sure your child has necessary sanitizing products with them at every training.

         Parents should make sure kids goto the bathroom prior to practice and bathroom facilities will not be provided.

         Car pooling is not recommended.

  •   Instruct the players to follow all CDC guidelines as well those of your local health authorities. Educate the players as to what these requirements are.

Recommended Player Responsibilities:

         Wash hands thoroughly before and after training.

         Bring, and use, hand sanitizer with you at every training.


         Practice social distancing, place bags and equipment at least 6 feet apart.

         Utilize your designated location and do not touch or share anyone else’s equipment, water, food or bags.

         Wash and sanitize all equipment before and after every training.

         No group celebrations, high-5s, hugs, handshakes, fist-bumps, etc.
