A Message from Tournament Director, Eric Hlava:
The Howell United Holiday Cup is going into our 10th year of competition. We could not have arrived here without the help of our many volunteers and without the support of all the clubs and teams that have attended our event. Our goal was to create an environment where teams of all levels could play competitively while feeling welcome in our "home" during this important holiday. As we mark our 10th anniversary, we are going to recommit to those goals that were the basis of the Holiday Cup.
This year, I plan on getting us back to the basics: offer competitive competition for every team while providing a quality experience for your coaches, players and families so that they want to come back again next year. After a two-year hiatus from being the Director of the Tournament, I am returning to restore our tournament to the levels it had once achieved. I have also asked Gary Grimes, the Director of Holiday Cup I and II to be my Co-Director this year. This year will mark the 6th year that I will be the Director of the Tournament. Our promises to you this year are:
- To make the girls side of the tournament as competitive as the boys side.
- To increase the overall quality of our playing fields.
- To increase the level of competition and the playing fields for our higher level teams and to not "over flight" our other guests.
- Return to running our Tournament like a family reunion and not like a business.
We do not expect to change everything overnight but we do plan on making improvements immediately. We feel we have to take it one-club, one-team at a time and look forward to the opportunity to speak with you directly.
As such, we have already reached out to many Clubs and have even created a working relationship with a great club, NJSA 04, to help us with this year’s event and to develop future events (news to follow). Along with NJSA 04, we plan on offering high quality competition as well as making you feel like you are part of our Club. We have also reached out in the area and are procuring additional sites that were not used in previous tournaments to show how serious we are about improving our event.
Thank you for your interest in our Tournament and I hope you will consider us, again or for the first time, to spend time with us during this Thanksgiving Weekend.
